Meet Dr. Pete:
Hi! My name is Pete Meagher.
(Pronounced “mah - her.”)
I’ve worked with individuals, groups and families for over two decades and I am passionate about helping others to recover from trauma, especially through using Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I grew up in Wisconsin in the 1960s and 70s, and like many in my generation who were inspired to “be the change,” I wanted to do my part to create a more inclusive and just society. This inspired me, right out of college, to serve in the Peace Corps in the Central African Republic. Afterwards I went on to work towards prevention of violence and substance abuse in colleges and universities for many years.
I’m the guy on the left. The other guy is Bob Newhart.
Currently I divide my time between serving as the Associate Dean/Director of the Skills Lab Program with the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work at Walden University and as a therapist in private practice. Both my role as a therapist and educator feed each other in really wonderful ways. Working with individuals in therapy, I witness personal healing and transformation. While in my job at Walden, I get to assist both masters and doctoral students who are the future generations of change makers. It is an honor to work with them all.
I feel fortunate to call Madison, WI home; where I live with my wife and step-daughter and our dog Mr. Chips. In my free time I love to explore all that Madison has to offer: great food, access to hiking and lakes, cultural events, music and dancing.
I look forward to meeting you.
Mr. Chips with Dr. Pete
